Recent sports facility, Borteyman Sports Complex constructed for the 2023 African Games has been turned into a church facility in a viral video sighted by GhanaTrends on X.
Many have criticized this following the trending video, attributing such activities to the destruction of pitches. Ghanaian footballers have over the years complained about the poor quality of pitches in Ghana which have had negative impact on their training.
Among such players is Thomas Partey who recently in a meeting with the President of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo grumbled about the poor quality of pitch urging the president to consider quality of pitches a priority
According to investigations conducted by Joy Sports, “the church service was conducted by leadership of Christ Embassy-Legon Central, who did not have permission to organise the event.”
Joy Sports sources have added “the leadership of the University of Ghana Students Representative Council (SRC) and the church had written to the National Sports Authority (NSA), seeking permission to take some students on a field trip to the facility, which has become some sort of a tourist attraction after the games.”
