Uganda Airlines has started flying to Ghana, launching a four-times-weekly service between Entebbe and Accra on Tuesday, October 27, 2026. The route uses a Boeing 737-800 and stops in Lagos, Nigeria, on the way.
The launch marks the Ugandan national carrier’s entry into the Ghanaian market. Until now, travellers between Accra and Kampala have mostly connected through Nairobi on Kenya Airways or Addis Ababa on Ethiopian Airlines.
Uganda Airlines says the route is meant to boost trade, tourism and investment between West and East Africa, especially under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
The airline has billed the service as “direct”, but Ugandan and Ghanaian reports confirm the flights are not non-stop, as each one touches down in Lagos.
Uganda Airlines Accra flights: frequency, aircraft and route
The new service operates four times a week on a Boeing 737-800. According to Nile Post, the aircraft is wet-leased from Ethiopian Airlines.
From Entebbe, passengers from Accra can connect to Nairobi, London, Mumbai, Dubai and other destinations across Africa, the Middle East and Asia, 3News reported.
- Route: Accra – Lagos – Entebbe (and return)
- Frequency: four flights a week
- Aircraft: Boeing 737-800
- Start date: Tuesday, October 27, 2026

How the Uganda Airlines fare compares with Kenya Airways and Ethiopian
Uganda’s The Observer reported a promotional return fare of $550 (about Shs 2.3 million) on the route.
By comparison, the paper said return fares through Nairobi on Kenya Airways range from about Shs 2.4 million to Shs 3.8 million, while trips through Addis Ababa on Ethiopian Airlines range from about Shs 2.2 million to Shs 3.3 million. Fares vary with demand and how early tickets are bought.
What Uganda Airlines officials said at the launch
Acting Uganda Airlines CEO Girma Wake said the carrier is reorganising its schedules so that long-haul flights connect better to regional routes. “We were having flights that were coming from Bombay, Dubai, and London, connecting to nowhere,” he said.
Uganda’s Minister of Works and Transport, Fred Byamukama, said limited air connectivity remains a major obstacle to Africa’s economic integration, forcing travellers to use indirect connections and transit stops.
Ghana’s Honorary Consul, Kwame Ejalu, described the new link as an opportunity to strengthen relations between the two countries. Uganda’s Finance Minister, Amos Lugoloobi, said Uganda Airlines now accounts for about 30 per cent of air traffic at Entebbe.
Ghana–Uganda trade forum in Accra on October 28
As part of the launch, Uganda Airlines, the Uganda Tourism Board and the Uganda High Commission in Ghana are hosting a Ghana–Uganda Trade and Business Forum at the Accra Marriott Hotel on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.
The theme is “Leveraging Air Connectivity for Trade, Tourism, Investment and Economic Cooperation.” The airline has also held roadshows and a workshop with Ghanaian travel agents and tour operators.
The Accra route follows other moves to link Ghana more closely with East Africa, including the Air Tanzania flights to Ghana.
What the new route means for Ghanaian travellers and businesses
For Ghanaian travellers, the route adds another option for reaching Uganda and the wider East African Community without going through Nairobi or Addis Ababa.
The airline says Ghanaian exporters could move fresh, high-value goods more cheaply to East Africa. It is also promoting Uganda’s tourism, including gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
What happens next for Uganda Airlines in West Africa
Uganda Airlines says the expansion brings its network to 19 destinations, and an Entebbe–Kigali route is also planned. The airline has agreed with Boeing to acquire 10 new aircraft and two cargo freighters, The Observer reported.
The test now is demand. Reports note that new routes must attract enough passengers to cover operating costs.
