Ghana Economy Grows 6% in Q2 2026 as ICT Surges

One of the biggest highlights of the latest GDP figures is the performance of Ghana’s ICT sector.

Information and Communication recorded an impressive 30.9% year-on-year growth during the second quarter, making it the fastest-growing major economic activity in the period.

The sector alone contributed 41.5% of Ghana’s total GDP growth, underlining the increasingly important role of technology and digital services in the economy.

The development comes as Ghana prepares for the planned rollout of 5G services before the end of 2026, with the government positioning improved digital connectivity as an important part of the country’s economic transformation.

Services remain the main engine

The services sector continued to lead Ghana’s economic expansion, growing by 8.0% in the second quarter and accounting for 57.6% of total GDP growth.

Transport and storage also performed strongly, recording 14.9% growth, while manufacturing expanded by 6.6% during the period.

The figures suggest that digital services, transportation, manufacturing and other service-related activities are becoming increasingly important contributors to Ghana’s economic performance.

Investment also records strong growth

Another notable development was the sharp increase in investment.

Investment grew by 53.0% in the second quarter, while domestic demand increased by 11.2%, according to the latest GDP data. On a seasonally adjusted quarter-on-quarter basis, real GDP also increased by 1.4%.

The industrial sector grew by 4.3%, supported partly by a strong rebound in oil and gas production. Oil and gas activity itself expanded by 21.4% during the quarter.

Ghana’s growth picture remains mixed

Despite the overall 6.0% expansion, the latest figures show that growth is not evenly distributed across all sectors.

Agriculture grew by 3.9%, while fishing recorded a significant contraction of 24.7%. Accommodation and food services also declined during the period.

Nevertheless, the overall economy continues to expand, while the strong performance of ICT and other services provides a potentially important foundation for Ghana’s digital and economic transformation.

The Ghana Statistical Service currently reports second-quarter GDP growth at 6.0%, alongside 5.0% year-on-year inflation for August 2026, pointing to an economy experiencing continued expansion alongside significantly lower price pressures than in previous periods.
