President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has inaugurated the Presidential Conference on Youth in Agriculture, emphasizing the opportunity for Ghanaian youth to leverage incentive packages within the program to explore agriculture as a viable avenue for job creation
This initiative, a collaboration between the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) and the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), is designed to address the pressing challenge of youth unemployment in the nation.
In his keynote address during the program’s launch, the President highlighted the government’s commitment to tackling youth unemployment through innovative interventions like the Youth in Agriculture program.
President Akufo-Addo anticipates that the successful implementation of this agricultural initiative will lead to an increase in food supply and a reduction in food costs within Ghana. He expressed optimism that, by the end of his tenure, the nation would witness a significant decrease in food inflation, aiming for a single-digit figure.
The Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Ignatius Baffour Awuah, echoed this commitment, emphasizing the potential of agriculture in addressing youth unemployment. Encouraging the youth to form cooperatives and partnerships, he highlighted the off-taker arrangements and incentive packages outlined in the program, presenting a compelling case for young individuals to actively engage in agriculture.
Minister Awuah underlined that with the structured support provided, there is no excuse for the youth not to participate in agriculture. The call to rally around the initiative, form cooperatives, and take advantage of the outlined benefits showcases the government’s strategic approach to combatting youth unemployment and fostering growth in the agricultural sector.
