The Constitution Review Consultative Committee (CRCC) is proposing significant changes to the composition of the government in Ghana
Chairperson Clara Beeri Kasser-Tee recommends capping the number of appointed Ministers at a maximum of twenty-five (25). In her view, this limitation is sufficient for the effective management and operation of various sectors within the country.
During the recent Newsfile segment on JoyNews, held on November 11, 2023, Clara Beeri Kasser-Tee emphasized the committee’s stance, stating, “Our recommendation is to cap ministers at 25, not more than 25.
Ghana does not need more than 25 Ministers to run.” This proposal is a response to the current structure, aiming to streamline the decision-making process and enhance efficiency in governance.
By advocating for this cap on ministerial positions, the CRCC seeks to address concerns related to the size of the government. This move aligns with their vision for a more agile and focused administration. Moreover, the committee emphasizes the importance of strategic leadership and effective coordination, asserting that a leaner ministerial structure can better serve the needs of the nation.
In addition to the proposed cap, the CRCC recommends the removal of deputy ministers and the elimination of regional ministers’ offices. These suggestions collectively form a comprehensive approach to restructuring the government, with the aim of optimizing its functionality and responsiveness. As Ghana moves forward, these proposed changes could potentially redefine the landscape of its political governance.
