Dr Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party has remarked that he wants to reduce the cost of electricity in Ghana and change the electricity generation mix.
in a trending video, the Vice President and the country and flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party addressing an audience stated that the cost of electricity has surged.
The crowd were heard cheering the Vice President on when he mentioned that he intends to reduce the cost of electricity for all Ghanaians.
The Vice President of Ghana attributed the surge in the cost of electricity to the importation of oil and gas to cushion the generation of electricity in Ghana.
Remarks Made by Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party Dr Mahamudu Bawumia
Today the cost of electricity is very high due to the importation of oil and gas for electric power production and because of the increase in the prices of oil and gas, i intend to change the generation mix from oil and gas to solar power. He said.
Many have opined that the Vice President’s remarks is an insult to the intelligence to Ghanaians as he being the Vice President of the country still has the capacity to effect the changes he intends to make after winning the election.
Others in his political party has defended the claims citing the controversial and popular statement “I’m the driver’s mate” comment which the Vice President has emphatically and repeated put up as a defense to his inability to effect changes in the difficult economic situation in the county to better the lives of Ghanaians.
