In a charged demonstration on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, the Volta Diaspora Caucus Protests MP’s “Murderer” Remark About Jerry Rawlings as they march from the late President Jerry Rawlings’ residence to Ghana’s Parliament House, demanding an apology.

Clad in red shirts bearing the “Volta Ghana” insignia, protesters carried placards and voiced their outrage over the remark, which has reignited controversy around Rawlings’ polarizing legacy. The protest, reported by Ghana Trends Media on Youtube, underscores the deep emotional and political ties Voltarians feel toward Rawlings, a former military leader and NDC icon whose tenure divided opinions on issues of order, security, and alleged human rights abuses.

However, the demonstration has drawn sharp criticism on social media, with many questioning the caucus’s priorities amid a humanitarian crisis in Keta, where tidal waves have displaced thousands, flooding homes and destroying livelihoods.

The controversy traces back to a February 2025 parliamentary session, where an NPP MP’s remarks about Rawlings, sparked outrage among NDC supporters, including Rawlings’ daughter, Dr. Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings.

The Volta Diaspora Caucus, formed to unify Voltarians and bolster NDC support, sees the MP’s comment as an affront to their regional identity and Rawlings’ legacy, prompting today’s action.
