AFCON 2023: Ghanaians Compare Mohammed Kudus and Victor Osimhen Following Nigeria’s Defeat to Ivory Coast

Ghanaians Compare Kudus vs. Osimhen in the AFCON 2023

Following Nigeria’s defeat to Côte d’Ivoire in the AFCON final, Ghanaians trolled Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen and some social media users engaged in discussions comparing Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen to Ghana’s Mohammed Kudus.

Despite Osimhen’s notable goal and assist during the tournament, netizens debated whether Kudus, who secured two goals despite Ghana’s early exit, displayed superior performance.

In the aftermath of the Super Eagles’ loss, a segment of Ghanaians took to social media to mock Nigeria’s team, while others initiated a comparative analysis between their prominent striker, Victor Osimhen, and Ghana’s Mohammed Kudus.

The discourse among netizens primarily revolved around the assertion that Victor Osimhen, the prolific Serie A club Napoli striker and recipient of the 2023 Men’s Player of the Year award by the Confederation of African Football, fell short in terms of goal-scoring compared to Mohammed Kudus.

Despite Osimhen’s individual achievements and contributions to Nigeria’s performance in the AFCON tournament, a prevailing sentiment emerged on social media platforms suggesting that Kudus’ performance, marked by his two goals, overshadowed Osimhen’s output, despite Ghana’s early elimination from the competition.

The question arose within online discussions as to whether Victor Osimhen’s statistics during the AFCON 2023 warranted his recognition as the Confederation of African Football’s 2023 Men’s Player of the Year, especially in light of Mohammed Kudus’ noteworthy performance despite Ghana’s premature departure from the tournament.
