In Garu town, located in the Upper East Region, a reported exodus of men leaving their homes has been observed, reportedly spurred by alleged military brutality

This unsettling development involves the military’s alleged targeting of civilians, particularly men, with corporal punishments and physical assaults, resulting in numerous injuries. The Garu District Hospital is currently grappling with an influx of cases as those injured seek medical treatment.

The National Security Ministry asserts that this military action was prompted by an attack on their personnel the previous day. In response to the aggression from irate youth in the town, the ministry deployed five counter-terrorism intelligence officers to Garu for a critical and special operation.

Despite these efforts, the situation escalated when the irate youth, armed with AK-47 rifles, machetes, and other weapons, attacked the officers. The assailants shot at the officers and pursued them to the police station, where they were ultimately rescued by the Ghana Armed Forces.

Amidst these conflicting narratives, the community faces a challenging and precarious situation. The fallout from the alleged military brutality has not only resulted in a surge of injuries but has also led to the displacement of men from their homes.

The underlying tensions and the complex nature of the incident underscore the need for a thorough and unbiased investigation to ascertain the facts surrounding this tumultuous event.
