A tragic incident unfolded earlier today in the Oforikrom Municipality of the Ashanti Region, where the lifeless body of a middle-aged market woman was discovered in a bush by the roadside at Kumasi Anwomaso-High Tension.

In a disturbing video tweeted by EDHUB, some individuals believed to be police and health officials were seen inspecting the deceased prior to transporting the body to the morgue.

Background to what transpired prior to her demise

The deceased, known to be a food vendor who recently transitioned to selling gari at the local market, was a familiar figure in the community. According to reports, the woman had a routine of visiting her daughter’s pharmacy each day after closing from the market before heading home.

However, concern arose when she failed to appear at her daughter’s pharmacy as expected yesterday. Despite multiple phone calls from her worried daughter, there was no response.

Early this morning, residents made the grim discovery of the woman’s body in the bush, prompting immediate notification of the authorities.

The incident was reported to the Oduom Police Station, where officers quickly arrived at the scene. Upon inspection, they found the woman’s phone, GHS800 in cash, and some market items near her body.

Notably, there were no visible signs of assault or injury, raising questions about the circumstances of her death. The body has been transported to the Emena Hospital mortuary for an autopsy as investigations continue.

Many have described the incident as a possible attack and have bemoaned the disregard of security patrol in some areas in the municipality that breed criminal activity.
