The Guinness World Record has come out to refute claim made by Ghanaian Chef Ebenezer Smith popularly known as Chef Smith that he now holds the longest cooking marathon title.
In a series of reports, many media houses disseminated the news suggesting that Chef Smith had achieved the Guinness World Record title as the individual who cooked for over 802 hours.
The self-acclaimed Chef Smith in a viral video was captured unveiling the certificate he claimed was presented to him by the Guinness World Record as onlookers and fans cheered him on the occasion.
Couple of minutes later reports of his arrest surfaced online casting doubts about his achievement though the arrest was not confirmed to have had any connection to his Guinness World Record title.
Many opined that the arrest was made by Nana Boroo his alleged manager who stormed his outdoor event with security officers to pick him up.
Many Ghanaians took to social media to question Chef Smith’s achievement with many questioning why Guinness World Record had remained silent on the award and recognition thereof – because no post whatsoever at the time, confirming Chef Smith’s attainment of the title had been seen on any of GWR social media handles neither on its website.
Guinness World Record in response to TV3 Ghana’s question refuted the claim and said the title still rests with Mr. Alan Fisher from Ireland.
Hello TV3, thank you for getting in touch. We can confirm this is not true. Chef Smith does not hold the GWR title and that is not our certificate. The current and true current record holder is as follows:
The longest cooking marathon (individual) is 119 hr 57 min 16 sec and was achieved by Alan Fisher (Ireland) in Matsue, Shimane, Japan, from 28 September to 3 October 2023. Guinness World Record responded to the query.
