The Ghana Integrated Aluminum Development Corporation (GIADEC) is gearing up for the initiation of bauxite mining in the Nyinahin range of the Ashanti Region, with approximately half a million tonnes expected to be extracted

This significant development follows the successful completion of the Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE) and a thorough social impact analysis, underscoring the commitment to responsible mining practices.

Michael Ansah, the CEO of GIADEC, emphasized that stringent measures are being implemented to ensure that the mining activities adhere to international standards.

This update from GIADEC marks a notable progression, occurring three years after President Akufo-Addo’s announcement regarding the commencement of bauxite mining in Nyinahin, located in the Atwima Mponua district.

Speaking at a gathering in Nyinahin R/C School park during a regional tour, the President conveyed that the bauxite company had successfully completed preparatory tasks. Anticipating the imminent arrival of workers at the site, he highlighted the positive impact the mining venture would have on job creation for the local youth and the overall advancement of the area.

This bauxite nearly became the personal property of one individual, but we are going to ensure that the entire country benefits from the resources, especially the people of Nyinahin, he added.

As Ghana prepares to embark on this substantial mining endeavor, the focus remains on executing the project with utmost responsibility and in accordance with international standards. GIADEC’s dedication to conducting the Mineral Resource Estimate and social impact analysis underscores a commitment to ethical and sustainable mining practices. Stay tuned for updates on the Nyinahin bauxite mining project as it progresses towards contributing to the region’s economic growth and employment opportunities.
