Most Ghanaians especially users of public transport are perturbed about an impending increment in transport fares.

Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) today, Monday, October 24, 2022 is to announce a proposed increment in transport fares.

Most commuters of public transport in the capital, Accra have expressed worry and disappointment in the incessant increases in transport fares in Ghana.

The salaries of workers have not increased in recent times, so the increment in transport fares will affect us. We are only living by the grace of God. The proposed upward adjustment is too high, says a passenger.

If government is able to reduce fuel prices, we will be okay because we are suffering too much,  says another passenger.

This, according to some people, may stem from recent increments in petroleum products globally. 

Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) after its engagement  with the government on Thursday,

announced its intention to increase fares by about 40 percent.

VIP JEOUN on the other hand has announced new transport fares for the travelers effective 7am today.

Accra- Kumasi previously was GH¢85 but now GH¢100, while Accra-Sunyani will now cost GH¢130 cedis.

Also, people moving from Accra to Tamale will have to pay GH¢240.

The economic woes seem to have no end in sight and most workers will have to consider cuts in expenditures to be able to survive.
