K. K. Kabobo, a renowned highlife musician, passed away as confirmed by fellow highlife artist Kaakyire Kwame Appiah on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem

Kabobo, who had been battling illness for some time, succumbed to liver disease on Thursday, March 14.

Reports indicate that he was rushed to the University of Ghana Medical Center (UGMC) on the day of his passing but unfortunately passed away upon arrival. His illness was made public just two weeks prior, prompting a wave of support from the public, including donations from figures like former President John Mahama, Samira Bawumia, Wendy Shay, and the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO) to aid in his medical expenses.

Born Kwabena Kwakye Kabobo, he initially pursued a career as a pupil teacher before venturing into music. In 1978, he founded his first band, Explosive Jets, and went on to release his debut album in 1981, featuring the hit track “Nyatse Nyatse (Girl).” His song “Onyame Ehuwo” was a massive success in 1992, earning him the title of Song of the Year and becoming the best-selling record in Ghana that year.

In addition to his musical career, K. K. Kabobo was ordained as a pastor by the Covenant Mission Bible College in 2012. He is survived by 16 children.
