Highlife legend Daddy Lumba’s last public appearance and final remarks have surfaced and gone viral across Ghana and beyond following news of Manhyia fining the family.
The ongoing family feud surrounding the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba (Charles Kwadwo Fosu, who passed away on July 26, 2025) took a dramatic turn at Manhyia Palace on November 7, 2025. The palace’s traditional council fined family head Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu two sheep after he was found guilty of making false claims, including wrongly stating that he had informed Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II about the funeral date.

The fine stems from Daddy Lumba’s sister, Ernestina Akosua Bimpomaa (also known as Ernestina Fosu), invoking the sacred Great Oath (Ntam Kɛseɛ) on October 31, 2025, outside Kumasi High Court. This escalated the dispute to Manhyia, as Asante custom requires such oaths to be resolved traditionally, shifting jurisdiction from civil courts and necessitating purification rites.
In a key resolution during the same hearing, the family reportedly voted 17-2 to recognize Germany-based Akosua Serwaa as the official widow for funeral rites, sidelining “Odo Broni” (Priscilla Ofori, mother of six of Lumba’s children). Akosua Serwaa, legally married under German law, had accused the family of excluding her from plans.
The palace urged amicable settlement, with earlier hearings postponed for family talks. A related court case resumes November 12, 2025. Videos from the palace showed sheep delivered as fine payment and moments of reconciliation, like embraces between Ernestina and Abusuapanin Owusu.
This blend of tradition and law highlights tensions over Lumba’s funeral (planned for December 6 in Kumasi), marital status, and autopsy demands. The legend’s legacy continues to spark national debate on custom vs. modern rights.
