High court judge has ordered Attorney-General Godfred Dame to stay away from the ongoing ambulance case involving Hon. Ato Forson and Mr. Richard Jakpa.
The judge’s directive came after allegations of professional and prosecutorial misconduct were raised against the Attorney-General.
Despite the court’s decision not to claim jurisdiction to conduct an inquiry or declare a mistrial based on the alleged misconduct, the matter has taken a new turn. The judge instructed Hon. Ato Forson to pursue any grievances regarding the Attorney-General’s conduct through the General Legal Council, should he choose to seek further redress.
Adding to the complexity of the case, a recorded telephone conversation between Mr. Jakpa and the Attorney-General has been accepted into evidence. This admission occurred despite objections from the Attorney-General, who argued that the recording was inadmissible.
This case marks an unprecedented moment in Ghana’s legal history, as it is the first time a court has directed the Attorney-General to step aside from a trial. Meanwhile, the court is still in the process of ruling on additional applications filed by Mr. Jakpa, further prolonging the legal proceedings.
