Press Conference by AG on Ex CEO of GIIF Solomon Asamoah Sky Train Scandal
In a press conference on Monday 24th March, 2025, Dr. Ayine disclosed that Mr. Solomon Asamoah left Ghana for South Africa on 2nd February before finally relocating to Senegal which is his current location.
“The CEO is hiding in Senegal. We tracked him first to South Africa, now he is in Senegal. When we contacted him, he told us he would not return to Ghana until three months from now, and we are patiently waiting for him. If he does not return, he will be tried in absentia” he stated.
“We tracked the company to Mauritius and a lawyer there has confirmed to us that it does not exist. But that is also a developing story” he added.
He further explained that the 2 million payment made was at the request of the chairman of the board of directors, Prof. Ameyaw Ekumfi and the Chief Executive Officer of GIIF, Mr. Solomon Asamoah without any approval from the board.
This 2 million dollars was to fund the Sky train project which was initiated by the New Patriotic Party to transform the transport system but has unfortunately been involved in financial scandal. Additionally, a review into the board’s minutes confirmed that the transaction indeed was made without the consent of other board members.
“There was no board approval for the transaction, and the conditions precedent to disbursement had not been met” he categorically stated.
Upon several investigations, it had come to light that the funds which were earlier transferred to a company in Mauritius was non existent. This was as well confirmed by a lawyer there.
