Parliament has announced its intention to investigate the recent killing of five suspected landguards in Bortianor. The announcement was made during a sitting on Monday, June 12, 2023

The decision was made after the Member of Parliament for the Bortianor-Ngleshie Amanfro constituency, Hon. Sylvester Tetteh, the Member of Parliament raised concerns about the incident and called for an investigation into the matter.

According to reports, the five individuals were killed during a confrontation with a group of residents who accused them of being involved in landguard activities in the area.

The incident has sparked outrage among residents of the area and has raised concerns about the activities of landguards in the country.

During the sitting, Hon. Sylvester Tetteh expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and called on the government to take urgent action to address the issue of landguards in the country.

He also called on Parliament to investigate the matter and ensure that those responsible for the killings are brought to justice.

Following his statement, the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, announced that Parliament would set up a committee to investigate the matter.

He stated that the committee would be tasked with gathering information about the incident and making recommendations on how to address the issue of landguards in the country.

Parliament through the Second Deputy Speaker, Andrew Amoako Asiamah, wants a the thorough examination of the matter, and has set a deadline for the committee to present its report by the end of the month.

We are making the referral to the committee of the Defence and Interior, and we are asking the leadership of the Constitutional and Parliamentary Affairs to also join the Defence and Interior Committee and report back by the end of this month.

The decision by Parliament to investigate the killing of the suspected landguards has been welcomed by many residents of Bortianor and other concerned citizens.

They believe that this is a step in the right direction towards addressing the issue of landguards in the country and ensuring that justice is served for those who have lost their lives as a result of their activities.

However, some have expressed concerns about the effectiveness of such investigations and have called on the government to take more concrete steps towards addressing the issue.

They argue that investigations alone are not enough and that more needs to be done to prevent such incidents from occurring in the first place.
