The establishment of the Ghana Gold Board, popularly known as GoldBod, an initiative rolled out in 2025 under the leadership of Sammy Gyamfi, Acting MD of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC). GoldBod was introduced as part of former President John Dramani Mahama’s comprehensive economic recovery agenda, aimed at strengthening Ghana’s economy and stabilizing the Cedi.
GoldBod centralizes and regulates the buying, selling, assaying, and exporting of gold, especially from Ghana’s vast small-scale mining sector. By granting GoldBod a monopoly on gold exports, the government aims to reduce illegal mining and gold smuggling, ensuring foreign exchange earnings flow back into Ghana’s economy. The goal is simple — to increase forex inflows and prevent the leakage of national wealth.
