Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa Raises Concerns Over $20 Million Cash Transfer Through Ghana’s KIA by Bank of Ghana

Member of Parliament for North Tongu has raised some concerns about cash transfer involving over $20 million by the Bank of Ghana.

He revealed in a tweet on X that he began closely monitoring the arrival of $20 million in cash at Ghana’s Kotoka International Airport (KIA), which according to him was promptly cleared by officials from the Bank of Ghana.

He further mentioned that questions have since arisen regarding the consistency of the supporting documents with the Bank of Ghana’s August 21, 2024, letter to customs and airport officials. The letter, he said sought to facilitate the clearance of these uncirculated banknotes, appears to have discrepancies that warrant explanation.

I am keenly tracking the movement of some US$20million cash which arrived in Ghana via KIA this afternoon. The cash has since been cleared by officials of the Bank of Ghana. The Bank of Ghana must offer explanations on why supporting documents are not consistent with the content of its August 21, 2024 letter to custom and airport officials seeking to clear the uncirculated banknotes.

Even though the Bank of Ghana claims the money was ordered by the central bank of Liberia and that the cash will be re-exported to Monrovia whenever there is an available flight, other intercepted documents including an air way bill indicate emphatically that the consignee is the Bank of Ghana and not the central bank of Liberia.

My international partners and I will keep tracking this US$20million cash from London to confirm if indeed the fresh banknotes will be transferred to Liberia, when the transfer will be carried out and if the full amount will be transferred. For God and Country. Ghana First. He tweeted.
