In a recent press briefing named “Let the Citizens Know” held on November 1, 2023, Samuel Tettey, Deputy Chairman in charge of Operations at the Electoral Commission (EC), offered reassurance to those affected by the Akosombo dam spillage in the District-Level Elections
If it is the voter ID card that you have lost and your name is properly entered into the voter’s register, you can still vote without your voter’s ID card, Mr Tettey said.
The forthcoming District-Level Elections, set for December 19, 2023, will accommodate these victims with specific measures in place. Emphasizing inclusivity, Tettey clarified that individuals who had misplaced their voter ID cards could still exercise their voting rights, provided their names were accurately registered in the commission’s database.
Simultaneously, the EC is gearing up for the District Level Elections by unveiling the provisional voters register. This public display will occur from November 3 to November 7, 2023, across all 38,622 polling stations nationwide, spanning from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The primary objective of this exhibition is to empower potential voters to verify critical details such as name, age, sex, and assigned polling station. During this period, individuals can submit requests for amendments or inclusions, ensuring the accuracy of their voter information.
The exhibition period further facilitates the opportunity for voters to object to the inclusion of unqualified individuals in the register or advocate for the removal of names belonging to deceased persons.
This proactive approach aligns with the EC’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of the electoral process. Through these comprehensive measures, the Electoral Commission aims to foster transparency, accuracy, and, most importantly, the active participation of all eligible voters.
