The University of Ghana (UG) has been recognized as the top university in Ghana and the fifth in West Africa in the 2024 Sub-Saharan Africa University Rankings by Times Higher Education (THE).
Overall, UG secured the 23rd position among universities across Sub-Saharan Africa, a notable achievement highlighting its commitment to academic excellence, impactful research, and regional leadership.
This ranking reflects UG’s strides in quality education and innovation. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, commended the university community for its dedication. “This achievement underscores our collective efforts in pursuing academic excellence and enhancing our global competitiveness,” she remarked.
Key factors in the rankings included UG’s strong performance in teaching, research influence, and community engagement. The Sub-Saharan Africa University Rankings, in its second year, evaluates institutions on these criteria to highlight their role in addressing societal challenges and advancing knowledge within the region.
As UG continues to make its mark regionally and globally, it reinforces its position as a leader in higher education in Ghana and beyond. Most students however in other universities have had different opinions about the ranking opining that the University of Cape Coast does better in Ghana than the University of Ghana.
