The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued instructions to junior and senior high school headteachers, urging them to keep school opened and prioritize kids safety amid the teacher union strike in Ghana involving Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT).
These teachers unions commenced their strike action on March 20, 2024, citing dissatisfaction with the government’s handling of their conditions of service.
Despite the strike, GES has directed regional and district directors to ensure that school heads keep educational institutions operational and supervise students closely. This directive aims to mitigate disruptions to the learning process and safeguard the welfare of students during this period of industrial action.
While the teacher unions express their grievances regarding the perceived neglect of their concerns by the government, GES emphasizes the importance of maintaining continuity in education delivery and ensuring a conducive learning environment for students.
