National Service personnel have declared nationwide strike due to government’s failure to pay monthly allowances.
The announcement was made by the Concerned National Service Scheme (NSS) Personnel Association of Ghana (CONSPAG) after efforts to get government to honour its part of the bargain proved futile.
The indefinite nationwide strike commences on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 until governance fulfills its obligation of making allowances owed all services personnel.
The group said in their statement that ‘government is owing trainees for five (5) months allowances whereas graduates from universities are owed three (3) months.
The statement further highlighted certain challenges that have triggered their strike action including;
- Inability to pay our accommodation and utility bills due to non payment of allowances.
- Inability to transport ourselves to our various User Agencies regularly to meet our required number of days to be qualified for validation due to non payment of allowances.
- Inability to feed ourselves at our various workplace.
- Borrowing money from different sources to survive the hardship we are going through.
- Development of health complicated issues.
Ghanaians have slammed government for turning a deaf ear to the demands and plights of service personnel in the country and urging government as a matter of urgency heed to their calls.
