Police have arrested 64 suspects after an operation at a lounge near Achimota Mile 7 in the Greater Accra Region, recovering pistols, pump-action guns and more than 100 rounds of ammunition and cartridges.

The operation was carried out by the Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the Inspector-General of Police (SOA) together with the National SWAT team, according to a police statement issued on Friday, September 25, 2026.
All 64 suspects are in custody assisting with investigations and are expected to be put before court.
What led to the Achimota police operation
According to the police, the operation followed complaints from residents about suspected criminal activity at the lounge.
The concerns reportedly included the open display of firearms and a possible trade in weapons at the location, prompting the Special Operations team and National SWAT to move in.
Firearms recovered during the operation
During the operation, police say one of the suspects, Theophilus Ashon, was found with a Smith & Wesson pistol loaded with six rounds of 9mm ammunition.
Ashon allegedly presented himself as a CID operations officer. However, police checks established that he is not a member of the Ghana Police Service.
A blue, unregistered Acura vehicle was also impounded at the scene, and a pistol holster was found inside it.
Following further investigations, another suspect, Michael Emmanuel Kingsley Mills, was arrested at Atico. A search of his residence allegedly led to the recovery of:
- Three pump-action guns
- Four pistols
- 62 AA and BB cartridges
- 54 rounds of .40-calibre ammunition
64 suspects arrested to face court
Police say all 64 suspects remain in custody and will be arraigned as investigations continue into the source of the weapons and the activities at the lounge.
The arrests add to a series of recent police operations targeting illegal firearms in the country. Earlier this year, police in the Volta Region also arrested robbery suspects and retrieved a cache of weapons in Akatsi.
Residents have been encouraged to continue reporting suspected criminal activity in their communities to the police.
