In the pursuit of securing the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer position, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia appears to be gaining considerable traction as he outperforms closest rival Kennedy Agyapong with the latest findings from the Global Info Analytics Survey
The indication shows potential dominance in 13 out of the 16 regions. This survey, conducted between October 2 and 11, engaged 4,311 NPP delegates across all 275 constituencies. Dr. Bawumia emerges as a frontrunner with 43.5% of delegate support, while his closest competitor, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, secures 23.5%.
The regional breakdown reveals a nuanced competition, with Bawumia and Agyapong sharing the spotlight in the Oti Region, each claiming 80% of the votes.
However, Agyapong takes the lead in the Ashanti and Central regions. The dynamics of the race are further underscored by the survey’s indication of a potential runoff, as none of the contestants achieves the required 50% plus total valid votes for a first-round victory.
Despite a commendable performance in the Central region, where Addai-Nimoh secures a 3% vote, he and the other candidate, Dr. Afriyie Akoto, seem to face steep odds, according to the survey results.
Intriguingly, the Vice President establishes a significant lead in the North East region, securing 90% of the votes, with the remaining 10% comprising undecided voters (6%) and those unwilling to disclose their choices (4%).
The survey paints a dynamic picture of the NPP flagbearer race, highlighting both Dr. Bawumia’s regional strengths and the potential for a closely contested runoff.
