Tensions flared at the Legon Police Station polling center as actor and parliamentary candidate John Dumelo accused incumbent MP Lydia Seyram Alhassan of distributing items to voters in the ongoing Special Voting.
Mr. Dumelo, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon, expressed frustration over what he perceived as an unfair advantage, vowing to ‘give his opponent a showdown.“If this is what she wants to do, I will give her a showdown today. Today!” Dumelo said, highlighting his concerns about electoral fairness. He called for immediate intervention to prevent voter inducement.
Lydia Seyram Alhassan, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, dismissed the allegations during a press interaction, describing them as baseless attacks on her character. “I’ve really had it! They keep attacking my reputation! It’s fortunate that I have the temperament to contain all of this,” she said.
She also refuted claims that she orchestrated the arrest of a University of Ghana security officer or distributed food at polling stations. The Ayawaso West Wuogon seat remains one of Ghana’s most fiercely contested constituencies, with both candidates vying for every vote as election day nears.
