The MP, John Kumah, aged 45, passed away after a brief illness, leaving behind a wife and six children. The vacancy left by his passing has necessitated the need for a replacement hence the by-election to fill the parliamentary seat in Ejisu constituency.
Electoral Commission By Elections: Preparations and Nominations
In preparation for the by-election, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has cleared all nine aspirants vying to contest in the party’s parliamentary primary in the constituency. The vetting committee completed the clearance process on Saturday, April 6, 2024, ensuring that all potential candidates meet the necessary criteria. Nominations for the NPP primary were opened on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, and closed on Thursday, April 4, with all nine aspirants submitting their candidacy.
The NPP is slated to select its parliamentary candidate for the Ejisu constituency on Saturday, April 13, 2024. As of now, no other political party has formally expressed interest in participating in the upcoming by-election. However, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has indicated that it is still deliberating on whether to field a candidate in the by-election. With the date set for the by-election and preparations underway, all eyes are on Ejisu as the constituency prepares to elect its new representative in Parliament.
