Deputy Chairman in charge of Corporate Services at the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr Eric Bossman says the EC is ready for the upcoming general elections

The Deputy Chairman in charge of Corporate Services at the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr Eric Bossman Asare has affirmed his outfit’s  readiness for the forthcoming general elections, emphasizing thorough preparations to ensure a smooth electoral process.

With a commitment to building on the achievements of the 2020 elections, the Commission aims to replicate past successes in the upcoming 2024 polls. As part of its strategy, the EC has proposed adjustments to the election date and has engaged stakeholders through the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting convened on Monday, January 22, 2024. These proactive measures align with the Commission’s overarching goal of enhancing the integrity and efficiency of the electoral system.

The EC’s proactive stance underscores its dedication to continual improvement and responsiveness to emerging challenges within the electoral landscape. By fostering collaboration with political parties and stakeholders through platforms like the IPAC meeting, the Commission demonstrates a commitment to inclusive decision-making and transparency.

Furthermore, the proposed adjustments to the election date reflect a strategic approach aimed at optimizing the electoral process and addressing potential logistical or operational constraints. Through such initiatives, the EC endeavors to uphold democratic principles and ensure that the electoral system remains robust and trustworthy.

In the broader context of electoral governance, the EC’s initiatives signal a proactive response to the evolving needs and dynamics of democratic processes. By prioritizing improvements to the electoral system, the Commission reaffirms its pivotal role in safeguarding the integrity and credibility of elections.

Moreover, the engagement with stakeholders underscores the importance of collaborative partnerships in driving positive change and fostering public trust in the electoral process. As the nation prepares for the 2024 general elections, the EC’s proactive measures set a precedent for adaptive and forward-thinking electoral management, ultimately contributing to the advancement of democratic values and principles.

He  said that the date for voting in general elections in Ghana may change from December 7 this year’s general elections will be held on the same date.

We are fully ready, fully prepared and the successes we chalked in 2020 we will repeat same,” Deputy Chairman in charge of Corporate Services at the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr Eric Bossman Asare told Joy News on Monday.

So within the last few months, this is something the Commission is going to trigger. That was agreed with the political parties, that in the event we cannot marshal the forces of IPAC to have it in November 2024, the Commission should take steps to ensure that in 2028, we are going to have it in November.

This must be clear, we were not talking about November 7. At the IPAC meeting, the decision was a day in November. So it can be the first Monday, a second Monday, a third Monday, Tuesday, Friday, or Thursday, Dr Bossman said.
