Abdallah Salifu, the Upper East Regional Communications Officer of the NDC, confirmed the news of his demise to JoyNews, attributing it to a brief illness. According to Salifu, Tia breathed his last at the Upper East Regional Hospital on Sunday, March 24, leaving behind a void in the hearts of many who admired his dedication to public service.

Political Background of John Akologu Tia

John Akologu Tia’s contributions to Ghanaian politics spanned several decades, characterized by his fervent commitment to serving his constituents and the nation at large. Emerging as a prominent figure in local politics in 1982, Tia assumed the role of Press Secretary at the Upper East Regional Secretariat of Peoples Defence Committees/Workers Defence Committees, established during the tenure of the Provisional National Defence Council military government.

Tia’s political journey culminated in his tenure as the Member of Parliament for Talensi from January 1993 to 2012. Representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC), he demonstrated unwavering advocacy for his constituency’s interests and played a pivotal role in legislative matters during his time in office. Beyond his parliamentary duties, Tia also served as a Member of the ECOWAS Parliament, showcasing his commitment to regional cooperation and diplomacy.
