The Ghana Police Service has apprehended Oheneba Nana Asiedu, a presenter with Wontumi TV and Radio, for allegedly disseminating false information about the upcoming general elections.
Authorities revealed that Nana Asiedu claimed the Electoral Commission planned to conduct the December 7 elections over two days, separating candidates into groups based on ballot positions, claiming candidates 1-7 on the ballot sheet will be voted on December 7 and the rest voted on subsequent days.
The misleading claims were reportedly made during a broadcast from Wontumi FM in Kumasi (Watch here). “This statement is entirely false and risks creating confusion,” the police remarked, urging citizens to disregard unverified information.
In a statement, the police emphasized the potential of such claims to disrupt public peace and undermine trust in the electoral process. The presenter was invited for questioning and subsequently taken into custody.
