I’m Not Frightened By Threats to Vote Against NPP in 2024, Akufo-Addo

The president of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said that he is not threatened by comments from Ghanaians to vote his governing political party out of power in the 2024 general elections.

The people of Kwabre and Manso in the Ashanti Region complained about the nature of their roads and were expecting these roads to be fixed by the sector Minister, Kwasi Amoak-Atta.

He made these comments in response to a question asked by an OTEC journalist following complaints from the people of Manso and Kwabre with respect to their deplorable roads yet to be fixed.

The president, as part of his visit to the Ashanti Region for inspection and launch of certain projects was hosted by the OTEC journalist in an exclusive interview where the president made his comments.

“The people of Kwabre and Manso, we know, they voted massively for you (Nana) and they have asked me to inform the president that if their roads are not fixed, they will be pained and in 2024, they will vote against the NPP” the journalist disclosed following Amoako-Atta, Road Minister’s response to a question.

President Akufo-Addo responded and said “No problem, no problem, I am saying people make those kinds of threats, me, they do not frighten me. Somebody votes for you, somebody supports you, it is because they want you to do things for them, so I understand that.”

He added that “There is no need for people to say if i do not do this or that, that is your own problem. Of course, I will fulfill my promises.

But if it so happens that you decide to vote for the NDC, that is your problem, that is not mine. Nobody will hold your hand to thumbprint for any candidate, the most important things is that i understand the responsibility and we will deal with it”

Some Ghanaians have said that the president interestingly is no more concerned about voting choices of Ghanaians as this inversely reflects his plea and consistent appeal to Ghanaians to try him for a president prior to the 2022 general elections.

Some other Ghanaians have also said that this particular trait of heads of state in the country is becoming the narrative as they recall the former president John Mahama making similar comments when he responded to complaints about bad governance and described himself as ‘Oguan fum’ which is translated into English as ‘the dead goat’.

Are we entrusting the country into the hands of leaders who will be accountable, considerate and share the pain of Ghanaians or are we just experiencing political tricks and games? Question Ghanaians can answer.
