Announcement made by Mr. John Dramani Mahama, the Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, has outlined an ambitious plan to revolutionize the local cashew processing industry if he emerges victorious in the 2024 elections

Emphasizing the crucial role of agricultural development, Mr. Mahama proposed a groundbreaking shift from the current practice of exporting raw cashew nuts to India for processing.

My leadership aims to introduce machinery in the Bono Region dedicated to cashew processing, designed for the efficient processing and packaging of cashews for export. This initiative is to retain any profits from cashews in the country,” he explained amidst chants from the public he said.

Under his envisioned system, Ghanaian factories would take center stage in processing and packaging the cashew nuts acquired from Wenchi. This strategic approach aims to boost the local economy by adding value to the cashew industry within the borders of Ghana.

By prioritizing domestic processing, Mr. Mahama envisions a scenario where these processed cashew products would then be exported, contributing significantly to foreign exchange earnings for the nation.

This proposal signifies a departure from the traditional model, aligning with Mr. Mahama’s commitment to fostering local industries and retaining the economic benefits within Ghana.

The pledge not only underscores the importance of self-sufficiency in processing but also positions Wenchi as a pivotal hub in this transformative agenda. As the 2024 elections approach, this innovative approach to the cashew industry could become a defining factor, resonating with voters concerned about economic growth and sustainability.
