LGBTQ+ cannot be completely eradicated in Ghana but Let’s Prevent the Indoctrination of Children – MP for South Dayi

lgbtq+ cannot be completely eradicated in ghana but let's prevent the indoctrination of children mp for south dayi

Rockson-Nelson Etse Kwami Dafeamekpor, the Member of Parliament for South Dayi, acknowledges that LGBTQ+ cannot be completely eradicated in Ghana but emphasizes the need to prevent the indoctrination of children.

He expresses concerns about subtle indoctrination through various mediums such as books, cartoons, and films that promote LGBTQ+ messages, which he finds worrying.

In respect of LGBTQ+, we can’t stop it, but we have to check it, the checking comes in when they do it in their homes, that’s their palaver, but don’t pour onto the streets and seek to indoctrinate innocent children. There are many media including books, cartoons, and films saying that there’s nothing wrong with this conduct. The attempt is that they want to equate this matter to a fundamental human rights, which is not. This is a lifestyle choice. When you are born with it, it becomes a medical condition, that is subject to treatment.

But some persons are going out of their way to change gender and say that they must have the right to be permitted to feel male or female. They are not ending it there, they want to have a right to determine these things for our children. Our children don’t even have voting decisions until they are 18 years. You want to go to schools to teach kids that when they feel a certain way it’s okay. We are inventing the order of nature, and no law on earth permits that, he explained.

Acknowledging the Persistence of LGBTQ+ in Ghana

Dafeamekpor strongly cautions that any attempts by individuals seeking to promote LGBTQ+ and prevent the passage of the bill will face fierce opposition.

Dafeamekpor vehemently rejects the notion that individuals who identify as homosexuals have a right to feel a certain way different from what is considered “normal.” He views homosexuality as a lifestyle choice rather than a fundamental human right.

He argues that while individuals may be born with certain medical conditions, going to the extent of changing one’s gender and asserting rights over children’s gender identities is an overreach. He believes it is inappropriate to teach children that certain feelings or identities are acceptable at a young age when they do not even have the right to vote.

The MP highlights the higher prevalence of HIV among homosexuals compared to heterosexuals and expresses concern that without prevention measures, these numbers may increase.

He cautions against accepting cross-dressing and emphasizes the potential cultural disorder that could arise if such practices were allowed without checks. Dafeamekpor stresses the need to resist the promotion of LGBTQ+ in order to safeguard society and protect what remains of traditional values.
