Oheneba Nana Asiedu, a journalist and aide to the Ashanti Regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed his deep concern over the resignation of legendary Ghanaian footballer Asamoah Gyan from the party.
Asiedu believes that this departure could have significant implications for the NPP’s chances in the 2024 elections. He described Gyan’s exit as a major setback for the party, which could contribute to a potential defeat if internal issues are not swiftly addressed.
Asiedu, visibly disappointed by Gyan’s decision, suggested that the resignation might have been sparked by a significant issue within the party’s ranks. He praised Gyan’s passion and dedication to the NPP’s campaign efforts, stating that the former footballer had shown tremendous enthusiasm in supporting the party. Asiedu admitted that he was shocked to learn of Gyan’s withdrawal from active campaign participation, as it came without prior warning.
Despite his resignation, Asamoah Gyan has not publicly disclosed the reasons behind his decision to step away from the NPP. However, he has assured the public that his commitment to the development of Ghanaian youth remains unwavering. Gyan pledged to continue his efforts toward youth empowerment through various initiatives, reaffirming his dedication to uplifting the next generation, even outside of partisan politics.
Asiedu issued a stern warning to members of the NPP, urging them to take corrective action or risk the party’s defeat in the upcoming elections. He emphasized that if internal issues and divisive actions within the party are not addressed, the NPP could find itself in opposition after the 2024 polls.
Oheneba Asiedu ‘s Comments on Asamoah Gyan’s Resignation from the New Patriotic Party (NPP)
I feel within me that someone has done something bad to Asamoah Gyan. The energy and passion with which Asamoah Gyan embraced his position as a member of the youth and sports committee of the manifesto, there is no way he would have resigned if he had not been treated badly. No one is talking about it because we think when we do that, it will cost us the elections,
I haven’t been fair to the youth and the people of Ghana. Henceforth, I am not affiliated with any political party. I will continue with my humanitarian work and help the youth of Ghana in my own small way. Nothing political. I wish all the political parties a peaceful election on the 7th of December. God bless our homeland Ghana. Thank you,” the caption of the statement reads. He remarked.
