Sack Ken Ofori Atta, All NPP MPs in Support – Majority Leader

sack ken ofori atta, all npp mps in support majority leader

Increasing calls to sack Ken Ofori Atta, Finance and his deputy have gathered more momentum and support from Majority caucus in Parliament according to Majority leader.

About 80 NPP members on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 petitioned President Akuffo-Addo to dismiss the Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and his deputy, Adu Boahen.

The members threatened to boycott parliamentary business with the government and withdraw their support for the 2023 Budget if the president refused to heed to their demands.

This call was withdrawn by the NPP members after consultation with President, Akuffo-Addo.

NPP MPs were slammed by the Minority and some Ghanaians after agreeing to the President’s decision to allow Ken Ofori-Atta to remain in office at least after the IMF deal and the reading of the budget.

Again in a new twist, Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has disclosed that the entire Majority Caucus in Parliament, are now in support of the calls for the dismissal of Ken Ofori-Atta, Finance Minister.

The Majority Leader further stated that the entire Majority Caucus now supports the move, even though it began with over 90 NPP MPs who organised a press conference to demand the removal of the Finance minister over the economic challenges experienced by Ghanaians and Ghana fiscal challenges.

Speaking at a news conference on Thursday, November 3, 2022, the Suame MP mentioned

Even though the issue started with the group of 80 plus, the caucus meeting aligned with the position of that group, so it is no longer the cause of the 80 plus MPs. It is the agenda for the entire caucus and we are having some discussions on that.

The Majority Leader who is also the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs in a similar development disclosed that a business tycoon tried to persuade them to back down on their calls to get Ken Ofori-Atta removed.

I’m told on authority that some businessman came here and tried to do something. I was told that he came here and tried to mediate in his own way what he thinks the problem is…..he was repelled by the people and told he was told not to involve himself. So he went away, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu made these comments in an interview with Joy News.

Minority on the other hand criticized the Majority Leader and described his remarks on the ‘businessman’ trying to influence them a cock-and-bull story.
