On Saturday, November 4, 2023, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) conducted its crucial polls to determine the party’s flagbearer for the upcoming 2024 general election, where Hon. Kennedy Agyapong surprisingly garnered significant votes from most regions
The intense battle for flagbearership unfolded among four prominent contenders: Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Agriculture Minister Owusu Afriyie Akoto, MP for Assin Central Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, and former MP for Mampong Francis Addai-Nimoh.
As the polls came to a close, Dr. Bawumia emerged victorious with a staggering 61.43% of the total votes, securing a significant lead over his rivals. Kennedy Agyapong, the closest competitor, garnered 37.41% of the votes.
At the regional level, Dr. Bawumia triumphed in 14 regions, showcasing widespread support across the party’s base. In contrast, Ken Agyapong secured victories in two regions, namely the Central and Volta regions.
