Jeffrey Schlupp, Felix Afena-Gyan and Majeed Ashimeru have been dropped from the Black Stars squad by the head coach, Otto Addo, this being the latest players to be excluded from the squad.
Jeffrey Schlupp, was born to Ghanaian parents in Hamburg and plays as a forward or winger and a left back occasionally for English Premier club Crystal Palace.
Felix Afena-Gyan, born in Sunyani, Ghana, plays as a forward for the Serie A club Cremonese.
Majeed Ashimeru, also plays as a midfielder for the Belgian First Division A club, Anderlecht. Midfielder Joseph Paintsil who plays as a midfielder for Belgian club Genk was also excluded from the squad on Tuesday.
According to sources, the decision by the Black Stars coach, Otto Addo was communicated to the three players via phone call, whereas coach Otto Addo is yet to make public his squad for the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
It alleged that Paintsil and Ashimeru were phoned and told that other players equally matched their performance and even considered better than them with regards to their respective positions.
Otto Addo on the other hand reportedly told Schlupp about his exclusion and the reason being that he had not watched him play enough for his consideration in the squad.
Ghana is in Group H with Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay. Most Ghanaians believe the Black Star’s clash with Uruguay will be a thriller which may be an opportunity to avenge what happened in the South Africa World Cup.
Ghana is expected to open camp in Abu Dhabi on November 11, 2022, and play Switzerland in an International friendly in the United Arab Emirates capital on November 17 prior to their flight to Qatar for the big game.
