The Black Stars, featuring several changes to their lineup, struggled to resist El Tri’s dominance, conceding goals from Hirving Lozano and Uriel Antuna in the second half.
Despite a revamped team in the second half, with players like Jordan Ayew and Inaki Williams introduced, Ghana failed to mount a successful comeback against Mexico.
The match took a decisive turn in the 72nd minute when Antuna outpaced Ghana’s defenders, sealing a 2-0 win with a well-placed shot past goalkeeper Ati Zigi.
This defeat marks the first for Coach Hughton since taking over from Otto Addo as the head of the Black Stars post the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

Hughton, facing challenges, had to cope with an inexperienced defensive lineup due to injuries sidelining key players like Salisu Mohammed, Alexander Djiku, Daniel Amartey, and Tariq Lamptey.
In the absence of the injured defenders, Stephan Ambrosius, Joseph Aidoo, and Nicholas Opoku formed a three-back, while Lawrence Ati Zigi guarded the goal. Despite the efforts of Kingsley Schindler, Gideon Mensah, and Elisha Owusu, Ghana couldn’t offset Mexico’s dominance. The focus now shifts to Ghana’s upcoming international friendly against the USA, where they seek a rebound from this setback.
