Background: GBC and Ministry of Youth and Sports $3.6 Million Coverage of 2023 African Games
The revelation came to light during an interrogation by Mr. Samuel George where the Minister claimed the whooping amount was paid to the GBC but such amount was quickly debunked by the Corporation.
According to the Ministry, out of the total amount, $2.5 million was paid directly to GBC. This payment was intended to cover the primary broadcasting responsibilities of the state-owned corporation during the games. The Ministry emphasized that GBC was entrusted with the bulk of the coverage to ensure that the event was broadcasted effectively across the nation.
In addition to the direct payment to GBC, the Ministry disclosed that $1 million of the total amount was allocated to third parties. This portion of the funds was used to outsource various services necessary for the successful broadcasting of the games. The Ministry highlighted that these outsourcing efforts were crucial to supplement GBC’s capabilities and to meet the comprehensive requirements of covering an event of such magnitude.
This clarification from the Ministry aims to address the public’s concerns and provide transparency regarding the financial dealings related to the coverage of the 2023 African Games. The Ministry reassured the public that all funds were allocated appropriately to ensure high-quality coverage of the event
