An illegal miner who went viral for threatening to rob President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, his daughter, and others on the highway due to the fight against Galamsey in Ghana championed by the President has apologized in another viral video for his comments.
In his initial video, the man expressed frustration over the president’s crackdown on galamsey (illegal mining), which he claimed was misguided.
In the controversial video, the man warned that if the government’s efforts to stop galamsey continued, he would resort to highway robbery, specifically targeting the president’s daughter.
Those trying to stop galamsey, now l’ve brought all my equipment home, and I don’t even know what to do with it.
Now, I’m going to rob people and kill them one by one on the highway, Nana, if you want to stop galamsey, I will come and rob your daughter. he said.
Following widespread backlash, he has since apologized, retracting his statements and expressing regret for his actions.
I plead in the name of God. I made a video, and now that the video is trending, I beg you in the name of God to please forgive me. Take it as if I am just a foolish child, and forgive me, he apologized.
This incident has further highlighted the tensions between illegal miners and the government over the fight against galamsey, as the government intensifies its efforts to protect the environment and curb illegal mining activities.
