Auntie Muni, a culinary maven renowned for her mastery in crafting waakye, a beloved Ghanaian dish composed of rice and beans served with flavorful vegetable sauce, has sadly left this world
The news, as reported by asaaseradio informs us that Auntie Muni passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2023, at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) in Accra, succumbing to a brief illness.
Arafat, Auntie Muni’s son, conveyed the somber news to Asaase Radio, confirming that her final resting place would be in Tamale, situated in the Northern Region, with the interment scheduled for the same day.
Mummy was sick, she was complaining of pain, so we took her to the SNNIT Hospital…., there was complications, so she asked that they discharge her.
When they discharged her, after two days, we realised she was still not feeling well. So we rushed her to the University of Ghana Medical Centre for medical attention and this morning at 3 am she passed away,
Originating from Tamale in the Northern Region, Auntie Muni, despite her education only reaching middle school, ventured to Accra over two decades ago, driven by personal circumstances following a disagreement with her spouse.
Departing from a flourishing business in Tamale, specializing in banku, gari, and beans, she dedicated herself to assisting her aunt in the waakye enterprise in Accra, eventually assuming its leadership.
In a revealing interview, Auntie Muni shared that her culinary prowess attracted a diverse clientele, including high-profile figures such as the offspring of ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor, former President John Dramani Mahama, renowned musicians, prominent businessmen, and ordinary Ghanaians—all of whom made her waakye a daily indulgence.
