An Accra High Court has remanded a businessman Osumanu Yahuza for allegedly assaulting and robbing former Second Lady Matilda Amissah Arthur at gunpoint in her residence.
The prosecution charged Yahuza with 26 counts of robbery and money laundering, alleging that he also targeted items belonging to renowned architect David Adjaye and others. Despite the charges leveled against him, Yahuza pleaded not guilty during his appearance in court on Tuesday, April 17.

According to the prosecution’s account of the incident, Yahuza demanded money and valuables from the former First Lady of the Republic of Ghana, Mrs. Amissah Arthur, ultimately succeeding in robbing her of GHC3,000, USD$2,200, and EUR 50.00.
The accused is believed to have made off with a gold watch valued at GHC20,000 and necklaces valued at GHC5,000. Furthermore, Yahuza allegedly assaulted the former Second Lady by strangling her and repeatedly hitting her head on the ground while demanding more valuable items, causing her to lose consciousness momentarily.
Following these disturbing events, Justice Lydia Osei Marfo remanded Yahuza into prison custody and instructed the prosecution to submit the complete details of their disclosures.
The court has adjourned the case to May 2, 2024, as legal proceedings continue to unfold. The incident underscores the importance of ensuring the safety and security of all citizens and the swift administration of justice in cases of violent crime.
