In a recent development, Prophet Ebenezer Adarkwa Yiadom, renowned as Opambour and leader of Ebenezer Miracle Worship Centre, has strongly criticized Dormaahene, Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II, for his outspoken attacks on the Ashanti kingdom and Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II

Opambour vehemently defends the status of Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, contending that his royal position surpasses that of any other traditional ruler in the country, rendering arguments about his supremacy baseless.

During an appearance on Prophet 1 TV, as reported by GhanaWeb, Opambour argued that Otumfuo’s status as a ‘king’ is beyond dispute, citing historical events such as his invitation by King Charles I during the late Queen Elizabeth I’s funeral as evidence to justify his esteemed position.

Opambour further emphasized that Dormaahene, the traditional ruler of Dormaa, lacks comparable regal standing in the country.

Was he invited by King Charles during the Queen’s funeral? Dormaahene should stop doing that. We don’t want this to continue. Whatever Otumfuo’s state is, we like it so he should shut up, Opambour jabbed Dormaahene.

When King Charles’s mother died, Otumfuo was allowed to enter the palace with his convoy while presidents were denied such privilege, he added

Background to the Developing Story

In an interview, Dormaahene Osagyefo Oseadeayo Agyeman Badu II asserted that, based on the 1992 constitution, there is “no King in Ghana” as it lacks any reference or provision for such a title. He has previously cautioned chiefs under the Dormaa jurisdiction against pledging allegiance to any paramountcy other than the one responsible for their enthronement.

In response to these claims, Otumfuo addressed Dormaahene, highlighting the historical role of an Asantehene in elevating Dormaa to a paramountcy. Otumfuo emphasized that the recognition of Dormaa’s status was made possible through the actions of an Asantehene, countering Dormaahene’s assertion regarding the absence of a king in Ghana based on the constitutional framework.

This exchange underscores the differing perspectives on traditional leadership roles and the constitutional nuances surrounding the recognition of royalty, revealing a nuanced debate between Dormaahene and Otumfuo.

Opambour’s strong stance extended to advising Dormaahene to refrain from criticizing Otumfuo, asserting that such critiques are unwarranted given the vast difference in their respective positions of kingship.

Opambour went so far as to bluntly advise the Dormaahene to ‘shut up’ regarding his disparaging remarks about Otumfuo, highlighting the significant distinction in their roles within the traditional hierarchy.
