A Police inspector leaves his gun in a commercial vehicle popular known as ‘trotro’ after taking a 100-Cedi bribe and gets interdicted by the Police Administration.
The driver of the trotro is captured in video circulating on social media narrating what transpired leading to the police officer leaving his rifle in the vehicle.
According to the trotro driver, he was preparing for work when the police officer stepped out of a police vehicle accusing him of picking up passengers at an unauthorized stop.
The driver out of frustration and fear succumbed to the police officer’s demand for Ghc 150.00 bribe to get freed or get locked upbehind bars for offense he (the diver) insisted had not committed. The trotro driver ultimately paid a Ghc 100 to the police officer out of the Ghc 150 initially demanded by the police.
The trotro driver added that the rifle of the police officer was then found in his vehicle a couple of hours later after he was set free by the police and decided to return it to the police station but again didn’t know which police officer to trust.
In a press release dated January 28, 2023, the Police administration confirmed interdicting the police officer, whose name and title were given as Inspector Sulemana Adam, stationed with the Rapid Deployment Force, Takoradi in the Western Region.
The press release also mentioned that the police inspector allegedly extorted a certain amount of money from the commercial driver and forgot his weapon after taking the bribe.
This has been referred to the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) to further probe the incident.
A statement by the Public unit, Western Regional Police Command, “Inspector Sulemana Adam stationed with the Rapid Deployment Force (RDF) Takoradi, has been referred to the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) to allow for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident
