Some celebrities have reacted to Kanye West’s reinstatement of his 7-month ban of the rapper’s X account formerly known as Twitter
The trajectory of events stem from the rapper’s antisemitic rants which got everyone slamming him for inciting hatred consequently leading to the suspension of his account. Kanye West, also known as Ye, made a triumphant return to X/Twitter. However, his comeback was short-lived as he was swiftly banned again, only to be unbanned shortly after.
The suspension occurred on December 1, 2022, following West’s sharing of a disturbing image on his Twitter account. The picture depicted a Nazi Swastika boldly superimposed into the sacred Jewish Star of David, which sparked widespread controversy and led to decisive action from Twitter. The reason cited for the ban was “incitement to violence.”
This was not the first time Kanye West faced suspension from Twitter. In the past, he had made a series of anti-Semitic comments that resulted in his initial ban on October 9, 2022. However, he was reinstated on November 21, 2022, after Twitter was bought by Elon Musk. Yet, less than two weeks later, the rapper was banned again due to the controversial image he shared.
X (Formerly Twitter) boss, Elon Musk’s Remarks
Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, confirmed the account ban and expressed efforts to enforce the platform’s policies. He has faced challenges in balancing free speech and rule enforcement, and recent attempts to introduce changes, such as the “Verified” subscription service, have met with challenges.
In the wake of the controversies, Kanye West’s account was reinstated again, leaving many wondering about the rationale behind the decision.
Celebrities’ Reaction To Kanye West’s X/Twitter Account Reinstatement
Throughout these events, celebrities had diverse reactions. While some, like Dianne Warren, called for a lifetime ban, others, such as 50 Cent and T.I., defended West’s right to express his opinions, even if controversial. Trevor Noah stressed the importance of addressing the root causes of anti-Semitism, while Jamie Lee Curtis applauded Twitter’s action against hate speech.
DIANNE WARREN:
Kanye West should be banned from Twitter for life. His anti-Semitic posts are vile and dangerous.
50 CENT:
Kanye is a genius, and he’s entitled to his own opinions. I don’t agree with everything he says, but I don’t think he should be silenced.
JAMIE LEE CURTIS:
I’m glad Twitter took action against Kanye’s anti-Semitic posts. Hate speech has no place on any platform.
T.I.:
I don’t agree with Kanye’s comments, but I don’t think he should be banned from Twitter. He’s a free thinker, and he should be allowed to express his thoughts, even if they’re controversial.
TREVOR NOAH:
Kanye West’s Twitter ban is a good thing, but it’s also a reminder that we need to do more to address the root causes of anti-Semitism. We need to teach people about the dangers of hate speech, and we need to create a society where everyone feels safe and respected.
NICK CANNON:
Kanye is a voice for the voiceless, and he’s not afraid to speak his mind. I respect him for that, even if I don’t agree with everything he says.
As of now, the situation surrounding Kanye West’s Twitter account remains a subject of discussion, with no official statement on the reason for the recent reinstatement.
