Following the recent imposition of a 10-year prison sentence due to his involvement in the Megan Thee Stallion shooting, Tory Lanez utilized Instagram to express his stance. Late on Thursday (Aug. 10), he stated his determination to maintain his innocence and affirmed his unwavering commitment to persistently contesting his situation until he achieves triumph
Identified by his real name, Daystar Peterson, Lanez had been found guilty of three felony charges in December related to the 2020 shooting incident. In a directed message to his dedicated “Umbrellas” fan community, he conveyed his thoughts.
In a written communication, Lanez emphasized his resilience in the face of challenges. He refused to succumb to adversity, vowing not to be vanquished by the prospect of imprisonment. He firmly underscored his longstanding position of asserting his innocence and highlighted his intention to remain unwavering in this conviction.
Regarding the sentencing hearing, Lanez acknowledged his accountability for interactions of a verbal and intimate nature that he shared with the concerned parties. However, he categorically disavowed any admission of guilt regarding the shooting itself. He clarified that his expression of responsibility did not equate to an apology for the unjustly placed charges against him. He reiterated his resolute refusal to apologize for an act he did not commit.
The sentence handed down on Tuesday, spanning a decade of incarceration for Lanez, exceeded the sought-after probation suggested by his legal representatives. Nevertheless, it fell short of the 13 years that prosecutors had recommended. The shooting transpired over three years ago, originating from an incident in July 2020 involving Lanez, Megan Thee Stallion (whose real name is Megan Pete), and their associate Kelsey Harris. Prosecutors alleged that Lanez fired shots at Megan’s feet while audibly directing her to dance. The charge against Lanez for the shooting was officially filed in October 2022.
Below is the complete text of Lanez’s latest statement:
Addressed to The Umbrellas,
Throughout my life, I’ve demonstrated an unwavering resolve in the face of adversity. Neither difficult circumstances nor the threat of incarceration have intimidated me. Irrespective of any attempts to misinterpret my words, I have consistently upheld my innocence, and I am steadfast in this conviction.
During the recent court proceedings, I acknowledged my involvement in verbal and intimate exchanges with the individuals concerned. That is the extent of my accountability.
I have never let a hard time intimidate me. I will never never let no jail time eliminate me. Regardless of how they try to spin my words, I have always maintained my innocence and I always will.
He writes that during his sentencing hearing, he took responsibility for “verbal and intimate moments that I shared with the parties involved,” but not for the shooting itself.
In no way shape or form was I apologizing for the charges I’m being wrongfully convicted of. I remain on the stance that I refuse to apologize for something that I did not do.
