Ghana’s President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo has been booed again, this time in Kumasi, the stronghold of his political party.
On Monday, October 17, in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi, a crowd of persons and market women chanted ‘y3resesa mu’ translated into English ‘We need change’ – a popular political chant by aggrieved or dissatisfied civilians who desperately need change.
An interesting and yet another action by the crowd was booing the president and his convoy as they drove past the crowd.
This happened in the regional capital where the President, Akufo-Addo, was inspecting the Phase II of the Kejetia/Central Market Project.
The president and government officials in the convoy were not spared as the group of market women, hawkers and artisans voiced their displeasure about the deteriorating economic situation in the country by booing and hooting at the convoy.
In a video trending on social media, the traders and onlookers were seen shouting and booing the President’s convoy as they passed by the crowd in the market. A typical scenario will be characterized by the crowd cheering and waving at the President especially in the stronghold of the New Patriotic Party.
This is the second time the President of Ghana has been booed at. The President got a similar reaction at the Global Citizens Festival late September, a clear sign of dissatisfaction from the public. Some NPP officials debunked this, stating that the noise heard at the Global Citizen Festival was actually cheers and joy from the crowd upon seeing the President mount the stage.
Some other NPP members also claimed it was staged by the NDC.
The state of the economy doesn’t look good from all angles and incidents like these are only a fair response from the populace with respect to the economic crisis. Ghanaians seem helpless with the government as cries to the government to salvage the economic situation have yielded no results or positive outcome.
