The Ghana Police Service has taken disciplinary action by placing former Director General of the technical department, COP George Alex Mensah, on interdiction. This action is connected to an ongoing investigation concerning a leaked audio recording seeking to oust IGP Dampare

The audio reportedly involves discussions about the removal of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.

This interdiction was communicated to COP Mensah on September 6, 2023. The investigation encompasses COP George Alex Mensah, Superintendent George Asare, and former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Bugri Naabu. The recorded conversation allegedly discusses a plot to remove IGP Dampare.

During a hearing before a parliamentary committee, COP Mensah described IGP Dampare as the “worst ever” police chief he had encountered during his 31 years of service. He reiterated this sentiment during his subsequent appearance before the same committee.
