This follows earlier commitments made in February 2025, where Mahama introduced the Ministry for Youth Development and Empowerment to tackle the nation’s youth unemployment crisis, which affects an estimated two million young Ghanaians, according to gbcghanaonline.com

Tuesday marks the launch of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, also known as Mahama Cares, designed to provide financial relief for individuals suffering from chronic and debilitating illnesses. Building on the initiative’s inauguration by the Ministry of Health in March 2025, Mahama Cares aims to bridge gaps in the National Health Insurance Scheme, ensuring that no Ghanaian faces the dire choice between health and financial ruin.

The program’s taskforce is already working on a sustainable funding model and fair eligibility criteria, as reported by the Ministry of Health, sparking hope among Ghanaians, though some, like allied health professionals unemployed since 2019, have voiced concerns on X about being overlooked amidst these reforms.

The week culminates on Wednesday with the National Apprenticeship Programme (NAP), which will train tens of thousands of youth in artisanal skills, offering a practical solution to unemployment while empowering the next generation with employable skills.
